Mission, Vision & Values

Sisters Together And Reaching (STAR) is built on core values that guide how the organization thinks, works, how we serve our communities, how we make decisions and how we determine our priorities.  Moreover, these core values & beliefs serve as our reinforcement for the people we serve, our colleagues and ourselves. The following core values drive STAR as a service oriented public health organization.

MISSION: Inspiring a revolution that nurtures the health and social needs of current and Future generations.

VISION: Growing healthy communities that thrive beyond HIV/AIDS and other chronic health conditions.

As a city, Baltimore is faced with some challenging health issues that have ravaged individuals, families, and communities, alike. As a bright spot, STAR operates on a different caliber than other community faith-based organizations. Through our integrated coordinated health approach, STAR exists as a leader, servant, and example for resilience, breakthrough, and optimism for legacies to come. Additionally, below are other opportunities that STAR can co-exist among other community organizations, corporations and industries related to HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases.

Coordinating Quality of Life Issues

Coordinating of Quality-of-Life Issues. As the healthcare industry becomes more saturated with persons striving toward health, the demand for additional health programming is critical. Survival value-based assets such as ensuring that patients have safe places to thrive, adequate nutritious meals, job training, mental health support groups, and resource navigation are just the tip of the iceberg of meaningful value-based contributions by STAR.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

Promoting healthy lifestyles throughout under-served & at-risk communities, STAR services and plays a vital role in the ongoing and future health reform. The health education that takes place from dedicated community health workers, from programs like Tumaini, have a deep generational impact on healthy quality of life behavior change.

Depicting a Real World Approach

Depicting a real-world approach to real-world dialogue. Daily, in conversations with stakeholders, STAR initiates a vivid depiction of urban life that may be difficult to comprehend for some. However, this lack of comfortability doesn’t negate the purpose-filled approach of STAR to break down those barriers igniting action. Leadership under the direction of Rev. Hickman seeks to expose the opportunities, tragedies, and improvements needed for optimal care coordination & management for those living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases.

While these are merely some of the monumental contributions from STAR, the crux of the community integrated approach is what distinguishes STAR— its legacy, its health promotion, and its dedication to the community.
